It also captured the essence of the County's smaller communities prior to their rapid expansion, and the disasters of the 1983 Coalinga earthquake and 2020 Creek Fire. A total of 21,036 sheets of photos (approximately 100,000 individual photos) have been scanned and linked to more than 112,000 addresses. Park designed by Johannes Reimas, a landscape architect from Stockton. Initial 71.76 acres were given to the city in 1903. George C. Roeding, son of Frederick C. Roeding, later served as a park commissioner and frequently donated trees and shrubs from his own nursery. The park became a center of community gatherings. Funded by a grant from the California State Library, the "Shades" project is a collection of more than 300 photographs provided by the Chinese and Japanese residents of Tulare County. Spanning the decades from the late nineteenth century until the present day, these images are a representation of the history and heritage of the Chinese and Japanese residents of Tulare County. Photographs of farm life, early businesses, athletics, the Visalia flood of 1955, the Japanese relocation camps, and family groups are just some of the varied elements of this collection.
