In 1907 the structure was moved from the Ferguson Ranch, east of Millerton, to this location. It was abandoned in 1944 and subsequently demolished. The Millerton District was created in 1860 and was one of the three earliest school districts established in Fresno County. It annexed the Pollasky District in 1894 and the Thermal District in 1907, and merged with the Auberry and Big Sandy districts in 1947 to form the Auberry Union District, which later became part of the Sierra Unified School District. Shows Western Stick architectural style. The schoolhouse initially contained two rooms, and later two more rooms and a basement were added to accommodate higher enrollment. In 1950, the schoolhouse was purchased by Our Lady of Mount Carmel church and moved to south Fresno, where it functioned as a chapel until it was razed. The Manning District was created in 1910, and merged with the American Union District in 1949. Description An account of the resource Picture of Malaga Elementary School, built in 1922 near the intersection of Railroad and Central avenues in Malaga, Calif. The structure, built in 1922, replaced a four-room building destroyed by fire. Constructed with Romanesque Revival architectural elements. The replacement school was made of brick, cost $45,000 and contained six rooms. It was destroyed by fire in 1940. The Malaga District was created in 1885, and joined the Fowler Unified School District in 1965.
