Description An account of the resource K Street School, located SE corner of K and Santa Clara streets, constructed in 1889 of brick. R.L. Young was the architect. Total cost was $20,000, containing 12 rooms, of which eight were classrooms. Featured two octagonal central halls, with hall on upper floor seating 600 as an auditorium. The school functioned as the city's high school until 1896, when Fresno High School was dedicated. The K Street building later housed the Emerson Elementary School, and was demolished ca. 1930. The Southern Pacific passenger depot was built in 1889 in Gothic-Romanesque style, between Mariposa and Tulare streets and adjacent to the Souther Pacific Railroad tracks. It featured a ticket office, baggage room, and separate waiting rooms for men and women, and was later expanded and remodeled.
